Karawa Areieta is originally from the Kiribati in the Pacific, He was a Fine Arts teacher to both junior and senior forms in a government secondary school since 1988 to 1995. In 1996 he went to study at the Australian Catholic University in Brisbane for 3 years where he gained a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Visual Arts.

In 1999 he went back to Kiribati to teach at the same secondary school to senior forms in Fine Arts including Graphic Designs until 2003. In 2004 he was transferred to the curriculum unit to work as a Curriculum Writer in Fine Arts until then.

He has worked a lot with well known artists in Kiribati such as Teweiaeiki Teaero,

Tony Whyncup and Robin White. This is where he gained most of his teaching experiences and skills in arts.

He has been working a lot with designing, illustrations for magazines and books, scenery paintings, murals, T-shirts designing, screen printing, logos, sculptures, board designing for shops, even painting for houses and graphic designs. He does not rely on Western arts only but has great experience with his Traditional arts. While maintaining a strong commitment to his arts, he has also been involved in outstanding community development through arts.
