Brett Wagner is a director and writer based in Honolulu, Hawaii. His latest
film, CHIEF, premiered at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival and was named
"one of the ten must-see shorts of Sundance" by IndieWIRE.
Filmed in the jungles, waters, and urban nightscapes of Oahu, Hawaii,
CHIEF tells the story of Semu Fatutoa, a Samoan Chief driven far from
home by tragedy, and looking for a way back, whether he knows it or not.
CHIEF won the award for Best Dramatic Film at the Los Angeles
International Short Film Festival, Best Narrative Short at the Maui Film
Festival, and a BAFTA Certificate of Excellence. CHIEF also screened at
the 2008 Festival of Pacific Arts in Pago Pago, American Samoa.
Brett's first feature, FIVE YEARS, was an official selection of 25 festivals
around the world, winning "Best Feature Film" at the Victoria Independent
Film Festival and "Best Screenplay" at the Avignon Film Festival, among
other accolades. FIVE YEARS is distributed by Cinemavault and has been
released in several languages.
Brett directs many commercial projects and holds an MFA from New York
University's graduate film school. Currently, he is at work on a screenplay
for Terrence Malick's production company.
