 Derek lives in Suva, Fiji where he works with a range of arts
organisations and artists at the regional, national and local levels (including
the Fiji Arts Council, CreatiVITI and the Pacific Arts Alliance). He is
passionate about the power of art to transform individuals and societies and
its capacity to explore issues and facilitate understanding.Attended the 10th Festival of Pacific Arts in American Samoa with the Pacific Arts Alliance to assist with the Artists Forum, and was a member of the organising team for the 2008 Wasawasa Festival. Has also been involved in organising and running a variety of other arts events in and around Suva. In 2008, Derek started writing and performing poetry and finds liberation from work and society structures and strictures in the freedom of expression poetry allows. He is working with other poets in Fiji towards publishing regular collections from the fertile local poetry scene and finding new ways to move poetry off the page and into people's consciousness. |
