For a number of years, COMSEC has
provided technical assistance to various member countries in Creative and
Cultural industries and some of the products from these industries utilize
natural fibre (both plant and animal).
This year the world is celebrating International Year of Natural Fibre (Led by FAO),
Plant fibres include seed
hairs, such as cotton; stem (or bast) fibres, such as flax and hemp; leaf fibres, such as sisal;
and husk fibres, such as coconut.
Animal fibres include
wool, hair and secretions, such as silk
Commonwealth intends to organize
a Pan-Commonwealth workshop related to production and marketing of natural
